HARD VS SOFT LUGGAGE AND THE ULTIMATE SET-UP
The SW Motech Trax ADV top box is a heavy-duty aluminium top case that holds 38 litres of storage and weighs in at 4.6kg. It uses 1.5mm thick aluminium and is reinforced with plastic sections. The top box dimensions are 41 x 34 x 33 cm.
It’s a lockable case with a lockable latch to open and close the lid and another one to remove it from the rack.
It also has two bars on the top, which make attaching an extra bag or straps (or in our case, a ukulele) to the top box easy peasy. It’s a nice touch that not all top boxes have. And inside the lid are hooks that make it easy to attach a net too.
The SW Motech Trax top box holds a very generous 38 litres, which is perfect for our luggage system. We use the top box to hold our electronics bag and keep all our camera and video equipment in there, along with the laptop and important paperwork. It takes the stress out of leaving valuables in soft luggage on the motorcycle.
To give an idea of space, it can easily take one Schuberth E1 motorcycle helmet, three pairs of gloves, a pair of flip flops, a rolled up waterproof jacket and about 12 Mars bars.
The top box has also proved to be completely waterproof, which is just as well considering all our electrics are in there.
It’s quick and easy taking the top box on and off and it also doubles up as a seat or mini picnic table when camping with the bike.
You have to buy the lockable latches and keys separately. It’s about £7 for a set, but you’re paying a big price tag as it is for a top box and I reckon the locks and keys should come with it.
The SW Motech Trax Adventure top box is a robust case that securely protects our most important equipment while travelling from potential theft and the elements. It’s tough, large, waterproof and secure. What more could you want from a top box!
