Lomo 60L Dry Bag Review

This review is based on our own personal experiences using the Lomo 60L dry bag on our round the world motorcycle trip.

A word on Lomo

We have been using Lomo gear for over 10 years. The first time I tried one of their bags was on a motorcycle trip in India and the Himalayas. Since then, I’ve always loved and used their bags on our travels.

We used the Lomo panniers for years and only changed as we got two new bikes and needed a different type of setup. While the panniers have changed, we both still have our Lomo crash bar bags fitted to both bikes and use their liners to keep our gear dry.

Lomo kit is great for motorcycling – but this bag isn’t motorcycle specific. We use it for a very different reason. Here’s why…

Why we use this bag

We have been riding our motorcycles around the world since 1^st January 2018. As we live on the road, we have to camp – a lot. We’ve camped in some crazy places and from freezing temperatures to boiling hot in Belize. But there’s one thing neither of us can stand when it comes to camping – bugs.

When we were in Tasmania, Australia, we camped on a beach. It was beautiful and wild. The blue waves crashed down and we slept on soft sand. The next morning we packed up and set off. 20 minutes into our ride, a huntsman spider crawled out from inside Alissa’s helmet and across her face. How we didn’t crash, I will never know.

Back to this bag. We immediately got this bag and now put our helmets inside it at night when we camp. No bugs are getting in – thank you!

Features

Roll top closure – simply roll the single open end down and clip up.

Fully waterproof – with enough air in the bag and if it’s not loaded with very heavy gear, it’s rather buoyant – ideal for river crossings.

Material – it uses a thin but tough Ripstop PVC fabric material, so it can be used as a rucksack or duffle liner or can be folded up and tucked away for when needed.

Capacity and dimensions – this is a large bag. Its capacity is 60 litres when. Its dimensions are 38cm diameter, 55cm tall when closed and weighs 280g.

Why we love it

This Lomo dry bag is a 60 litre roll top duffle. It’s super lightweight yet fully waterproof. It folds up small and thin and we can easily pack it away into the side pocket of our panniers. It fits both of our full face Schuberth E2 helmets with peaks on or both of our Alpinestars adventure boots.

It’s also incredibly handy when not camping. We use it as an emergency overflow. Often we’ll need to do a big shop and buy loads of food and water, especially if we’re setting up camp for a few days or booking into an AirBnB. We just whip this out, fill it up and easily strap it down with our Rok Straps. We’ve travelled with other riders who we watched spend 20 minutes trying to squeeze all their food and supplies into multiple bags on their bike.

Or, we might be riding through hot weather or stuck somewhere for a while. We can stuff our riding gear in the Lomo if needed. Or we can use it to store bulky gear we may need to leave for a while.

It has so many uses and is exceptionally handy to have on a long-term motorcycle trip.
