Why is it a good idea to transport your bike from the UK to Spain instead of riding it?
Firstly, transporting your motorcycle avoids the long slog riding across Europe’s motorways. This saves you time and leaves you fresh to start your riding holiday.
It also reduces the number of holiday days you would need to take away from work and family just getting to and from the start of your journey.
You’ll avoid the long sailing times and often high costs of Spanish ferries as well as the costs of additional hotels, food and breaks getting to and from your destination.
And finally, with the average motorcycle service interval at 6000 miles and tyre replacement every 5000 miles, you spend the cost of this mileage on the enjoyable miles rather than the motorways.
Where would the motorcycle be transported from?
We load at our central Northamptonshire loading depot, but our fleet of fully enclosed motorcycle transporters are travelling around the UK on a daily basis in case you would like us to collect from your door.
Where would it be transported to?
We currently transport between the UK and our Barcelona and Malaga depots. We do have the option to forward deliver to a specific address in either Spain or Portugal if you prefer. Our Spanish depots are typically a 15-minute taxi journey from the main airports.
How long does it take?
The trucks leave on a weekly basis so we would ask for your motorcycles at the beginning of the week before the week you would like to collect. For example, we would like your motorcycle no later than the Monday for collection at the end of the week after.
What sort of cost are we looking at?
Pricing reduces greatly based on the more bikes we have to move on the same trip. If you have a group of six bikes, Barcelona return would be GBP 1,086 per bike or GBP 1,266 per bike for Malaga.
Can riding gear be taken with it?
We can certainly include riding gear and luggage with your motorcycle. All that we ask is that any additional items and luggage are packed in such a way that they won’t damage the motorcycle and we must be able to fit everything in our loading space of 240 x 100 x 135cm per bike. We would just need to adjust slightly for bikes and luggage that exceed these dimensions.
Do you have to wait for carriers to be filled up?
The trucks are leaving and returning to the UK weekly which gives us the flexibility to transport single bikes or very large groups on a weekly basis.
How safe are the bikes? What happens with insurance?
Motorcycles are secured into our motorcycle stillages (cages) to ensure protection in loading and transport. Your motorcycle will be covered under CMR regulations which is effectively ‘Goods in Transit’ covering a carrier’s liability. This is currently around GBP 10.26 per kg of the cargo. To increase this liability, please request a separate quotation for an Enhanced Liability Transit insurance policy.
What about paperwork and getting your bike ‘across the borders’?
We require email copies of the rider’s passport photo page and V5 registration document in order for us to generate the Carnet documents.
How about returning it to the UK?
This is carried out in exactly the same way as the outbound transport and we can arrange forward delivery back to your UK door as an additional extra if you prefer.
