How to Ship a Motorcycle to Jordan – The Middle East

Jordan isn’t a well‑known motorcycle‑shipping hub, and most overlanders don’t realise it’s actually a straightforward place to ship a bike out of. Because it’s not commonly used, clear information is almost non‑existent – which makes the whole process feel more complicated than it really is.

This guide aims to change that. By breaking down how shipping works in Jordan, we hope to open up a new, reliable route in and out of the Middle East for overlanders.

Note from Mad or Nomad: our experience

We (Andy and Alissa, Mad or Nomad) personally used Marwan’s services to ship our motorcycles out of Jordan to Turkey in March 2026. We arranged the shipment for ourselves and eight other riders during the Iran–US conflict, when normal Middle Eastern shipping routes (Oman, Dubai) were disrupted and the situation was volatile.

Jordan is not typically a motorcycle‑shipping hub, and other travellers had previously been stung by unreliable agents in the region. A friend of a friend connected us with Marwan – and he was exceptional. Professional, transparent, and tireless. He went above and beyond to get all of us out of Jordan safely, and we are genuinely grateful.

Jordan shipping options

For Jordan, you can use either air or sea-freight to get your motorcycle in or out of the country. But it will depend on your destination, budget, timing and the airline / shipping line’s acceptance.

Here are your options:

Sea-freight: This is the most common option for motorcycles. This is usually far more cost effective when shipping several bikes together in one container. It’s more economical, but slower.

Air-freight: Flying your motorcycle is the faster and more efficient method, but with that comes a higher cost. This option is handled on a case-by-case basis.

RoRo: Roll-on Roll-off is also available on case-by-case. This is because it completely depends on your route, the vessel availability and destination. Note that some RoRo carriers will not approve motorcycles.

As every trip and route is unique, we suggest getting in touch to discuss which of the above options works best for you and your plans.

Popular shipping routes to and from Jordan

The main shipping point is usually Aqaba Port / Aqaba Logistics Village (ALV). Shipping can be arranged to and from many international destinations, depending on available shipping routes.

Shipping from or via Israel can be reviewed individually. This is subject to border, customs, security, and operational conditions.

Other land-based shipping options throughout the Middle East are also available.

Paperwork

To enter Jordan with a foreign registered motorcycle or vehicle, a Carnet de Passage is required. This is very important and is normally required for temporary import/export handling.

If you do not have a CDP, I can help arrange for one to be supplied to you at the Jordan border. A deposit would not be required like it is normally with other CDP providers. Please get in touch for more information on this.

Insurance for motorcycles entering Jordan can be easily purchased when you enter Jordan at a land border. If you are shipping into Jordan, then we can help arrange insurance normally for a minimum of three months.

Motorcycle travellers should prepare all of the below documents in advance:

Copy of passport for each rider
Motorcycle registration / vehicle title
Proof of ownership
Driver’s license
Original Carnet de Passage
Temporary entry permit into Jordan
Packing list for any personal effects inside the motorcycle or vehicle
Jordan motorcycle insurance documents

Customs clearance in Jordan

Motorcycles can enter Jordan on a temporary basis. The temporary entry permit is usually for one month, and it can be extended from the entry border. In some cases, temporary approval may be from 1 to 3 months. Extension may require Jordan Customs approval and fees.

When you enter you will need to have your Carnet stamped in. Once stamped, you will be given a Temporary Import Permit. Importantly, this should be valid for one month and you should make sure you ask for 30 days. Some travellers are only given two weeks, so be sure and check your documents before leaving.

Very important: On entry, travellers must make sure that the chassis number and all motorcycle details are correct on the temporary entry permit. This is one of the most common problems.

Shipping out of Jordan

Travellers should not arrive at the port without coordination. The process should be arranged in advance.

Confirm when bikes or vehicles can be released to ALV.
Arrange booking according to sailing date.
Load the container 2-3 days before vessel arrival to avoid missing the vessel.
Issue MBL and HBL where required.
Provide passport, driver/bike license, Carnet de Passage, temporary entry permit, and border entry details.
Arrange authorization to the clearing/shipping company.
Supervise inspection, loading, lashing, and stuffing at ALV.
Complete traffic department checks for any fines.
Finalise customs and re-export formalities.

Shipping into Jordan

Submit required documents to Jordan Customs at Aqaba or other entry points.
Obtain temporary import approval.
Arrange insurance.
Complete customs clearance.
Release motorcycles for use in Jordan.
Re-export within the approved temporary period or apply for an extension.

Common problems

Delays at Aqaba: Avoid by sending documents early and loading 2-3 days before vessel arrival.

Unexpected fees: Traffic fines, customs fees, port storage, extension fees, or additional handling may apply.

Damage during shipping: We supervise loading and lashing, and you are welcome to also be there during the loading process to ensure you’re happy with how the vehicle is strapped.

Carnet issues: Make sure the Carnet details match the motorcycle exactly. Some travellers have turned up at the Jordanian border without a Carnet and been refused entry. We can arrange for one to be delivered to the border for you if this happens.

Shipping costs

Before the Iran-USA conflict in March 2026, we would have been able to supply rough estimates for shipping. However, the situation is constantly changing and volatile.

Costs depend on:

Number of motorcycles
One motorcycle or group/container shipment
Destination
Sea-freight, air-freight, or RoRo
Port charges
Customs formalities
Loading, lashing, and handling
War surcharge or regional risk surcharge, if applicable

Group shipments are usually more cost-effective because container and handling costs can be shared.

Current rough costings are on an individual basis, especially because freight rates and war surcharges can change.
